Letter from a therapist who used the ILF Neurofeedback in her agency.

Before I leave my position as the therapist for Sponsors’ women’s program, I want to take a moment to thank you for your enormous contribution to the health and well-being of the clients I was so fortunate to serve there. Your gift of neurofeedback to the Sponsors program has made a noticeable difference in the climate and outcomes of our program, and I’d like to describe to you how it has changed things.

As you know, we typically serve women in residence for thirty days, as they exit prison and are seeking employment and housing in the community. Since beginning my work there, my question has been, “What kind(s) of therapy will best serve the participants in the short time they are with us?” Talk therapy, EMDR, trauma healing groups, DBT groups, and art therapy all had positive effects, but until I learned and offered neurofeedback, I was constantly feeling like what we were providing was not enough. Once I was trained and began offering neurofeedback, I saw clients increasingly eager to attend sessions and make additional appointments. The “buzz” around the campus was that everyone should take advantage of the mental health program while they’re there because it really helps. I had a very full client roster with few no-shows, and my clients were so grateful!

Even better than their enthusiasm were the results we’ve seen. Though it might take a few sessions to get to the right frequency and placements, once we did clients reported results like these:

“I’m still under a lot of stress, but I’m noticing I can handle it better.”

“I think I’m happier, believe it or not!”

“I’m a lot more patient with my kids, and I think it’s because of

neurofeedback.”

“It’s been a crazy week, and I’m just letting it go like water off a duck’s

back.”

Clients have consistently reported a decrease in problematic symptoms like inertia, lack of motivation, and exhaustion, which has helped them seek, find, and retain employment. They have improved emotional regulation, which has helped them manage the various situations they have to navigate when trying to reenter society. They have felt physically more relaxed and energetic, giving them the energy and stamina to look for housing for themselves and their families. Many have noted an improved ability to concentrate, to focus, and to express themselves to others. Others have been pleased to find that addictive behaviors and cravings significantly diminished. Most reported feeling calmer and more confident. Fortunately, the tracking system you devised gave me a way to keep track of all these changes and visually see the progress with my own eyes. I never tire of turning the computer around for my clients to witness the change themselves, as they are always delighted to see the colored lines confirming what they know to be true: they feel better!

There are few things more satisfying than feeling like you’ve made a positive difference in the world. Your gift of neurofeedback has given me that feeling, and I’m sure you must feel that one hundred-fold, as your work has spread the modality over dozens of therapists so far and counting. I plan to purchase neurofeedback equipment myself and take it back to the Midwest, where I’ll be practicing with a whole new population. I can’t wait to share this technology and these results with my new clients, and I am very happy to know that Sponsors clients will continue to receive this gift after I leave. I look forward to continuing discussions with my fellow practitioners here, as you’ve graciously allowed me to continue with our twice-monthly meetings.

Again, thank you for introducing our organization, our clients, and particularly me, to the cutting edge “miracle” technology of neurofeedback. May we continue to be humble witnesses to lives changed for the better!

Sincerely,

Prudence Tippins, MS CFT Mental Health Therapist
